Course Objectives:

To introduce students to a physical understanding of the foundations and the heritage of the advanced electromagnetic field that will occupy his or her professional life for the several decades following graduation. The course focuses on the electromagnetic wave and propagation problems as encountered in RF/microwave/millimeter-wave/optical engineering. Also this will give a deep insight for the operating principle of microwave device and circuits. The classical and analytical solution of electromagnetic problems and physical meanings will be stressed throughout the course


Course Description:

This course mainly deals with advanced theories and applications of electromagnetics, towards the detail study of nature through electromagnetic waves propagation. Electrical properties of matter, time harmonic electromagnetic fields, waveguides, scattering and diffraction, multi-path propagation and fading, geometrical theory of diffraction, surface-wave, lateral-wave and ionospheric propagation will be mentioned.


Computer Usage:

Students are encouraged to use a high level mathematics software, such as Matlab, MathCad to assist in some computations and graphical output.


Prerequisites:

Course on undergraduate level of Electromagnetic Field Theory.
