Theory

Each theory paper will have 30% internal evaluation and 70% external evaluaion as per the existing rules in the faculty. 30% marks of the internal evaluation will be decided by the Department by holding internal test during the year.

For external evaluation of each theory paper, there will be University examination of 100 marks each and of three hours duration. (These 100 marks will be converted into 70 marks.) This examination will be conducted at the end of the academic year.

In each theory paper, 28 marks will be for objective, short question-answer and have to be attempted in the question paper itself. The objective part of the paper would cover all the units within that paper and will be of 30 minutes duration. The remaining 72 marks will be for descriptive questions and will be for 2-1/2 hr. duration. The descriptive part will have four questions representing each unit and will have internal option.

Practical

There will be five practicals. The practical head will have 300 marks in Previous and Final year each. This includes practical, seminar, project, and fieldwork. Practical Examination will be internal as per the existing rules. The details are as under:

a) Internal periodical tests; 5 practicals x 20 marks 100 marks

(One best of the two test, will be considered for final evaluation)

b) Comphrensive Annual Test; 5 practicals x 30 marks 150 marks

c) Seminar 20 marks

d) Field work/Dissertation 30 marks

------------------

Total 300 marks

------------------

There will be a departmental committee (three members) appointed by head of the department for evaluating the dissertation.

To pass examination of M.Sc. (Prev.) and M.Sc. (Final), a candidate must obtain 40% of the aggregate marks in theory with a minimum of 25% in each paper, a minimum of 40% in practicals and 40% in Viva-voce examination.

Candidates obtaining 50%, 60% and 70% will be placed in Second, First and First Class with Distinction respectively, based on the total marks obtained at M.Sc. (Prev.) and M.Sc. (Final) examination.
