Easter Season

Divine Mercy Sunday: there will be a Holy Hour from 2pm during which the Chaplet and Litany will be prayed. Then there will be Mass at 3pm. Afterwards light refreshments will be served in the parish rooms.

Frs Tim, Duane and Matthew wish to thank all parishioners for their generosity, kindness and prayers at Easter.

The Annunciation of the Lord will be celebrated on Monday 31st March.

As we journey through Easter towards the great feast of Pentecost and the birthday of the Church there will be a series of three talks/discussions on the Church on Thursday 8th, 15th and 22nd May.

Parish Pastoral Council - copy of the minutes of the meeting held on 4 March 2008 are now on display in the Narthex.

Our Parish Centre - Bookings should now be made through Paul Blackburn on 01924 374248. Bookings can also be made by completion of a form available in the narthex.

ECHOES: this Parish-based training for handing on the faith will take place in St Austin’s rooms on 4 Tuesdays after Easter (April 8th, 15th, 22nd and 29th). There is still time to inscribe. It costs £10 (to cover the cost of session packs and refreshments). Enrolment forms are available in the narthex: if you are interested, please fill one in and give to Fr Tim. Echoes is ideal for anyone who wants to learn more about the faith, so that they can pass the faith on with confidence to children and to anyone who may want to know more about the Catholic faith.

Fitness, Fund Raising and Socialising meets on Wednesday afternoon 1-4pm.

St Austin’s 200+ Club It’s here, our Birthday weekend. We now come to the end of our 32nd year and hopefully look forward to more successful years ahead. To do this we not only need our members to re-join but we are also very much in need of new members as each year we naturally lose some. Each number costs £24 a year, £2 a month, and there are forms at the back of church, or you can just tell me you want to join. We have 52 prizes of £150 each. Please think about joining and therefore helping us to continue for even more years.

I intend to be around after all Masses on the two weekends after Easter to give members a chance to pay their subs. for next year. Also, I hope to gather in new members to the Club.

Clothes and More With Supper - Fair Trade Ackworth are holding this event at Ackworth Methodist Church on Saturday 12 April at 7 30 pm. Admission, by ticket only is £250 including supper. For more information and to book tickets  01977 612263

Confirmation Course: following the evening in Leeds the confirmation course continues from this Wednesday 2nd April in the Parish rooms from 7.30 - 9pm.

Rite of Enrolment on Sunday 6th April: during the 6pm Mass next Sunday the 29 young people who are to be confirmed in June will be enrolled in the programme. Therefore the length of the Mass will be extended a little.

Marriage Preparation Course: please keep in your prayers the 7 couples who begin their marriage preparation course next Saturday.

Parish Giving: at the end of the financial year we are very grateful for all that so many people have given over the last year for the up-keep of the Parish. If you would like to give regularly to the Parish through Gift Aid or by Standing Order and are not already doing so, please take one of the forms in the narthex or speak to Fr Tim.


Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament

Please note the extended period of exposition for the 1st Friday is to pray for vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

LOURDES PILGRIMAGE Fund raising events. To help students of St Thomas à Becket’s go to Lourdes to help the sick pilgrims in this the 150th anniversary year please come and support these events:

Thurs 3 April at 7 30 in the Parish Theatre - an Art and Entertainment Evening with local artist David Newbould sketching, talking about life in Yorks. Tickets £3 - see poster in narthex for further details.

Sun April 6th - Bacon sandwiches on sale after 9am Mass, refreshments after 11am Mass. Also Bun Sale.

Life Group: To enable us all to be better informed and raise awareness of the sanctity of all human life, it is proposed to formally set up a Life Group in the parish. To allow as many people as possible to become involved there will be a choice of meeting time for all those interested this Friday 4th April at 10.30am or at 7.30pm in Room 2. We hope that this will encourage as many parishioners as possible to come along to one of the meetings. Please see Fr Matthew if you have any questions and if you intend to attend one of the meetings. Thank you.

The London Bridges Walk - Anne Blackburn and Marilyn Monaghan will take part in this sponsored walk, over 10 London Bridges. Sunday 27 April 2008, the 40th anniversary of the coming into operation of the Abortion Act in 1968. Sponsorship forms are available at the back of the Church and money raised will be used to support the newly formed West Yorkshire Life Group and Life’s work nationally. Please help to further this vitally important work.

THE WEDNESDAY WORD: the school mission begins in our Diocese a week on Wednesday (April 9th). Please pray that it may touch many of our families and deepen or reawaken their faith.

Reading Group: the next meeting is on 11th April at 7.30pm when we will be discussing “Christianity Rediscovered” by Vincent Donovan. All welcome.

Co-Operative Northern is holding an “Ethical Dilemmas Seminar” in the Parish Rooms on Monday 14 April from 7-9 pm. Parishioners are welcome to attend. A list will be put in the Narthex shortly.

Oberammergau 2010: Fr Tim is organising a pilgrimage to the Passion Play (with a holiday in the Austrian lake district) 9th-18th June 2010.
