Part I: Cincinnati Reds (Red Stockings)

Series I. Administration & Business Material, 1877-1927

Scope note:

This series contains material relative to the business and administrative aspects of the early twentieth-century Cincinnati Reds. Cincinnati Board Material consists of some of the earliest records of the Cincinnati Reds regarding the sale of the Kentucky-based group, headed by John T. Brush, to the Cincinnati Exhibition Company, headed by Herrmann. There is also correspondence from team officials (including Herrmann) about player salaries, a 1911 recounting of the club purchase, and a position-by-position analysis of the Reds in 1927. Stock Certificate Ledgers contains bound material in the form of stock certificates issued to shareholders for the years represented. Shareholders contains correspondence from company shareholders. Financial Records contains tax records, banking statements, and records related to financial gains and losses. Legal & Insurance Material is made up of correspondence from lawyers employed by the club regarding cases and insurance matters. Ticket Sales contains not tickets but correspondence from the ticket companies used by the club for games and events. During Herrmann's era (1902-1927) the club contracted its tickets mainly from the Ansell Ticket Company. There are also rain check reports for 1909 and letters from various officials thanking Herrmann for season passes. Post Season -- Cincinnati-Cleveland Series contains material related to the Cincinnati-Cleveland Series, also called the Ohio Championship.
