Scope note:


This series contains correspondence and material from National League officials that Herrmann received as a team president in the National League. President contains correspondence from National League presidents received by Herrmann. The Presidents are arranged alphabetically then organized chronologically. Most of the material is in the form of formal letters addressing player transactions, etc. Secretary/Treasurer consists of correspondence from the National League Secretary/Treasurer which involves matters such as trades, player movements, etc. This section is arranged alphabetically then chronologically and should be researched in conjunction with president's correspondence. Office Staff contains correspondence from office staff used to support office duties of the National League. President's Annual Report consists of annual reports of the President of the National League for the given dates. Bulletins contain official National League bulletins that detail player transactions occurring in the league for the given date(s).

Series XVIII. National League Matters, 1902-1927


Scope note:


This series contains material Herrmann received as a team president in the National League and offers a view of how he responded when confronted with league matters. Business contains material involving league situations that were resolved within the jurisdiction of National League. This material was received by Herrmann as a President in the National League and, since he was a member of many league committees/boards, had decision power on these issues listed. Committees contains material involving National League committees which is made of correspondence from league presidents (each NL president served on a variety of committees) received by Herrmann as a member of the listed committee. Protested Games consists of material related to protested games (between NL teams) submitted to the National League for review and decision. Each protested game resembles a case with each made up of accounts, reports, and decisions provided by individuals involved in the matter. Player Cases contains material related to cases involving players from the National League which was resolved by the league and not decided by the National Commission. Each case is made up of correspondence from those involved in the matter. Umpires contains correspondence from National League umpires writing to Herrmann about baseball matters.
