About the author

Patricia Stamp is an Associate Professor of Social Science at York University in Toronto, Canada. Affiliated with the graduate programs in Political Thought and Political Science, Dr Stamp is a founding member of the Women’s Studies and African Studies programs at York University. She has been both a teacher and a researcher in African gender issues since the mid-1970s and obtained her doctorate from the University of London in 1981 with a dissertation on municipal politics in Kenya. In 1988, Dr Stamp chaired an IDRC-funded conference at York University on “Women and Natural Resource Management in Africa.” The meeting laid the groundwork for a substantive, Nairobi-based, research network of African scientists and social scientists working on women and the environment. Dr Stamp has published numerous articles on Kenya and is currently working on a book entitled Politics and Ideology in Kenya, which draws together political science and gender analysis.
