Standards



After successfully completing this program, the student will be able to perform the following:


  1. Demonstrate proficiency in the equipment skills and safety regulations relating to the automotive industry.

  2. Demonstrate mathematics knowledge and skills.

  3. Demonstrate science knowledge and skills

  4. Use oral and written communication skills in creating, expressing and interpreting information and ideas.

  5. Demonstrate proficiency in acceptable employee behavior in the automotive industry.

  6. Demonstrate proficiency in routine maintenance and consumer services.

  7. Demonstrate proficiency in engine theory and repairs.

  8. Demonstrate language arts knowledge and skills

  9. Solve problems using critical thinking skills, creativity and innovation.

  10. Demonstrate the importance of health, safety, and environmental management systems in organizations and their importance to organizational performance and regulatory compliance.

  11. Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and servicing of automatic transmission/trans-axle.

  12. Use information technology tools

  13. Describe the importance of professional ethics and legal responsibilities.

  14. Demonstrate personal money-management concepts, procedures, and strategies

  15. Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and servicing of manual drive trains and axles.

  16. Describe the roles within teams, work units, departments, organizations, inter-organizational systems, and the larger environment

  17. Demonstrate leadership and teamwork skills needed to accomplish team goals and objectives

  18. Explain the importance of employability and entrepreneurship skills

  19. Demonstrate proficiency in the operation of steering and suspension systems.

  20. Demonstrate proficiency in the operation and servicing of automotive brake systems.

  21. Demonstrate proficiency in diagnosing/troubleshooting electrical/electronic components as related to power train.

  22. Demonstrate proficiency in heating, air conditioning and engine cooling systems.

  23. Demonstrate proficiency in engine performance service.

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in the equipment skills and safety regulations relating to the automotive industry--The student will be able to:




    1. Apply shop safety rules, EPA and OSHA standards.

    2. Identify and use appropriate emergency first aid procedures.

    3. Identify, use and maintain hand and power tools properly.

    4. Identify and practice using appropriate precision measuring tools and torque methods.

    5. Identify and describe the proper procedure to apply and remove automotive fasteners, to include thread repair.

    6. Identify and use metric and English measurement skills.

    7. Use computer and operate keyboard to perform tasks typically required at a dealership.

    8. Identify automobiles according to engine location, cylinders, type of drive system, purpose, etc.

    9. Identify and describe typical automotive lubricants and lubricant properties.

    10. Interpret the Florida 'Workers Right To Know Law'.

    11. Identify and describe typical automotive seals and gaskets.

    12. Identify and use the proper procedures required for cutting tubing and double and ISO flaring.

    13. Utilize flat rate manuals, service manuals, service bulletins, parts manuals and electronic service information.

    14. Demonstrate knowledge of the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification and other applicable certifications.

    15. Describe and identify supplemental restraint systems (SRS).

    16. Disable supplemental restraint systems (SRS) in accordance with manufacturers' procedures.

    1. Discuss the role of creativity in constructing scientific questions, methods and explanations. AF4.1

    2. Formulate scientifically investigable questions, construct investigations, collect and evaluate data, and develop scientific recommendations based on findings. AF4.3
