Objectives of the course:

The student should obtain knowledge of organization and techniques of the monitoring of the natural environment.


Course description:

The State Monitoring of the Environment - rules of organization, measurement system, selected study methods, data bases. Techniques of pollution control of atmosphere, waters, soils and biological materials. The Integrated Monitoring of the Environment.

Objectives of the course:

The student should acquire knowledge concerning electroanalytical methods used in chemical analysis and environmental monitoring


Course description:

Electroanalysis in Analytical Chemistry. Controlled-Potential Techniques: chronoamperometry, polarography, linear sweep voltammetry, staircase voltammetry, differential pulse voltammetry, normal pulse voltammetry, reverse pulse voltammetry, sinusoidal alternating current voltammetry, square wave voltammetry. Stripping analysis: anodic stripping, cathodic stripping, adsorptive stripping, electrodes. Potentiometry, ion-selective electrodes. Flow-injection electroanalysis. Medium exchange. Electrochemical sensors: gas sensors, biosensors.

Objectives of the course:

The student should acquire knowledge concerning methods of flow-analysis and especially flow-injection analysis and its application to chemical analysis and environmental monitoring.


Course description:

Flow-analysis as a method for the rationalization of measurement in terms of time-consumption, costs and automative potential. Flow-injection analysis. Components of the flow-injection system: tubing, pumps, valves, mixing coils, dilution coils, equipment for liquid-liquid extraction, gaseous diffusion, dialysis, reactors, detectors. Flow-injection analysis with spectrophotometric detection or electrochemical detection. Atomic absorption photometry as detector. Separation in flow-injection analysis: liquid-liquid extraction, solid-phase extraction, gaseous diffusion, dialysis. Analysis of environmental samples: phosphates (V), nitrates (V), ammonia, ozone, sulphates(VI), fluorides, cyanides, heavy metals and pesticides.

Objectives of the course:

Organization of research stands, test measurements, preliminary research experiments, literature studies.


Course description:

Organization of research stands involves the project and completion of measurement sets of devices and apparatus, the construction of electrochemical cells, the preparation of chemicals and materials devoted to the diploma works. To test the practical usefulness of items
a number of standard measurements are performed. The program of preliminary measurements connected with the diploma plan is then carried out. An actualized list of publications and patents is the subject of the literature studies.

Current control during laboratory work.

Objectives of the course:

The student should acquire basic knowledge to perform scientific experiments, the written and oral presentation of research results with special reference to diploma preparation. Appropriate skill in scientific discussion is also a target of the seminar.


Course description:

Structure of a research report: literature review, research target, experimental part, apparatus and reagents, materials and methods, results, discussion, conclusions. Literature search methods. Two methods of citation. Abstract writing. Acknowledgements.

Structure of oral presentation: the aim of research, results in brief form, conclusions.

Formulation of questions in scientific discussion.

Review of diploma work at different stages


Assessment methods:

Continuous supervision and assessment during the semester
