Applications/Enrolment

Participants must complete an application Form online as guidance provided on 13 August 2009.


It is a University requirement that you follow the instructions in University correspondence regarding enrolment online. If you do not enrol online, it could mean that you do not receive the PGA award.


Email correspondence from Course Co-ordinator

You will receive emails from the Course Co-ordinator, informing you of important information. The emails may contain attachments. Please ensure that you read the emails and relevant attachments, and act upon the requests made.

It is also imperative that you inform the Course Co-ordinator of any change in your contact address/email address throughout the academic year and beyond, until you have received your certificate.


General Handbook


PGA Students will receive a General Handbook for additional guidance. It is particularly important that you consult the General Handbook for full details of the assessment procedure and for guidance on preparation and presentation of the assignments.

Module specification


Credit value: 20 CATS Credits at M level

Pre requisites: This module is designed to be taken by clinicians who have completed at least one year in their clinical environment

Teaching and learning methods: This module will be delivered by lectures, seminars, and workshops

Assessment Methods: The summative assessment of the PGA has three components as follows:


A practical assessment of your communication skills (40%)

The submission of an audit of 2000-3000 words (worth 40%)

and

The submission of a Reflective Diary, (1,000 words) (20% of marks)





Aims


This module aims to:

  • Enable students to build on their previous knowledge and practical experience

  • Widen access to provide quality education at Masters level

  • Equip students with the appropriately advanced skills in order to meet the needs of evidence based medical practice

  • Enable continuing medical education and continuing professional development

  • Encourage reflection on your effective communication skills and clinical practice

  • Encourage students to consider how their communication skills can be enhanced to deal with situations which are perceived as relevant to the F2 year
