2003 IBC | 2001 FBC | Proposed code change/staff recommendation | Introduction | | | This comprehensive building code establishes minimum regulations for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. It is founded on broad-based principles that make possible the use of new materials and new building designs. This 2003 edition is fully compatible with all the International Codes (“I-Codes”) published by the International Code Council (ICC), including the ICC Electrical Code, International Energy Conservation Code, International Existing Building Code, International Fire Code, International Fuel Gas Code, International Mechanical Code, ICC Performance Code, International Plumbing Code, International Private Sewage Disposal Code, International Property Maintenance Code, International Residential Code, International Urban-Wildland Interface Code and International Zoning Code.
| | Revised to read as follows: [1/12/04] This comprehensive building code establishes minimum regulations for building systems using prescriptive and performance-related provisions. | Letter Designations in Front of Section Numbers | | General: Bracketed letters throughout the IBC and IRC [B], [F].etc. I suggest removing these letters from all the codes as they do not serve any purpose for the FBC process. For the ICC Code development process, the letter designations assign code committee maintenance on certain sections for the code change process. For example, if a section in the IRC has bracketed [F] in front of it, any proposed code changes to that section would be heard by the Fire Code Committee instead of the Residential Code Committee. The ICC process assigns maintenance based on subject matter and not necessarily by code. Since Florida does not use this process, it may be confusing to users of the code. [Revised 3/2/04] | |
