MY SPECIALITY

I am a student of the Pacific National University. The University structure includes several Faculties. I study at the Faculty of Automotive and Power Engineering. It was established in 1998 on the base of the Automotive Engineering School. It is the oldest division of the University. Its graduates are the leaders of transport sector in the Far Eastern Region.

The Facultiy trains engineers-mechanics in 6 specialities in the areas of operating, researching, testing internal combustion engines, ship power plants and servicing of automobile transport systems. The Faculty has 11 laboratories, several computer classes and many classrooms for training engineers in production, repair and usage of transport.

My major is traffic management. From year to year the number of automobiles is increasing in our country. To own a car has become not only pleasant but in many cases necessary. However unbalanced development of both individual and public types of transport leads to serious problems: road congestion, road accidents. According to surveys about 75% of road accidents happen in urban areas. People’s life in big cities is becoming dangerous. So there is a great need in highly qualified specialists, who will be able to solve these problems – city traffic managers.

In order to become good specialists we study many theoretical and special subjects such as mathematics, ecology of transport, computer science, marketing, fundamentals of auto enterprises, loading and unloading operations, traffic safety. The graduates of our Faculty can work in any branch of national economy. As managers they are responsible for a well work of transport, quick and reliable transport service. There are a lot of employment opportunities in the field of transport. I don’t worry about finding a job. The most important thing for me now is to study well and graduate successfully from the University.

My speciality (Opencast Mining) I am a student of Pacific National University. My speciality is Opencast Mining. This speciality was opened in the university in 1999.

From year to year geologists travel by land and by sea to collect information about ore deposits. Removing the overburden miners turn over stones and rock which are some million years old. It is a well-known fact that Russia is rich in minerals which are mined in different parts of the country. Mining engineers should organize mining production with as efficient use as possible. They will do all wrong if they aren't properly trained. They will waste time and money. Thus there is a great need in highly qualified specialists who will be able to solve all these problems. In order to become good specialists we study many theoretical subjects: theoretical mechanics; strength of materials and computer sciences. Later we shall study special subjects: geology, geodesy and mine surveying, principles of mining engineering, opencast mining machinery, economics and management of mining enterprises, mining legislation and so on. Good knowledge of these subjects will help our graduates in their future work.

After graduating from the university future specialists will mine gold, diamonds, platinum, silver and coal. They will be able to work both as opencast mining engineers in open cuts and as legal advisers in special mining organizations. They can also be employed in scientific research institutes.

As for me, my future work will be connected with one of the gold-digging teams. I'll be busy with planning and calculating open cuts. Open cut (open cast) is the place where gold is mined in the open way. I'll be responsible for people, production and machinery. To protect the ecology I'll use only environment friendly technologies. One should be ready for hard working conditions of mining operations. I like my speciality very much. It is extremely important nowadays. Gold placers, ore open pits, coal quarries, concentrating mills are waiting for us. A skillful opencast mining engineer is always as good as gold.

Khabarovsk is the administrative center of the Khabarovsk Territory and of the Far Eastern Federal Region of Russia. It is situated in the South of the territory on the right bank of the Amur river. Its population is about 600000 people.

It was founded in 1858 by the soldiers of the 13th Siberian battalion under the command of captain Djachenko as a military post Khabarovka. In 1893 it was turned into Khabarovsk.

Khabarovsk is an important transport center which connects the remote eastern parts of Russia with the CIS and Pacific Rim countries. Its railway station, Amur river port, airport are the largest in the Far East. International terminal are the second largest terminal after Moscow. There are 40 domestic routes and flights abroad as well as many charter flights.

It is an important industrial center of the region. Unique nature and rich natural resources attract foreign investors and Russian businessmen are interested in foreign capital, advanced know-how and managerial experience of other countries.

Khabarovsk is a large educational and scientific center of Russia. There are nearly 80 schools, many universities and academies in the city. Scientific Research Institutes are engaged in the study of Far Eastern ecological system, of the basis of fishery and fishbreeding, forestry and wood industry, geology and agriculture.

Khabarovsk is famous for its museums. There are theatres, cinemas and sports clubs in it. There are many sights in Khabarovsk, the most favorite place of interests for us and our guests is the Amur Cliff. There is a monument to the first General-Governor of Khabarovsk Muravijov-Amurskiy.

Annually thousand of guests visit our beautiful city.

My specialty( traffic management) I’m a student of Pacific National University. I study at the Road - building Faculty. This Faculty is one of the oldest among the faculties of our University. It was organized in 1958.

I’m a second year student. My specialty is traffic management. From year to year a number of automobiles is increasing in our country. To own a car has become not only pleasant but in many cases simply necessary. However, unbalanced development of both individual and public types of transport leads to very serious problems, which are facing us today: the problem of environmental pollution (transport is one of the main offenders); road congestion, road accidents resulting from breaches of traffic rules. According to surveys about 75% of road accidents happen in urban areas. People’s life in big cities is becoming dangerous. Thus there is a great need in highly qualified specialists, who will be able to solve all these problems - city traffic managers.

In order to become good specialists we study many theoretical and special subjects at the university such as: mathematics, physics, economics and law, foreign languages and history, computer sciences, automobile and traffic safety, psychology, ecology of transport and others. Good knowledge of these subjects will help our graduates in their future work.

After graduating from the university, I shall be able to work as an engineer of traffic management in designing-research organizations; as an expert in investigating road accidents; as an expert in inspecting and certifying vehicles, traffic facilities and roads. I can also be employed in Motor-Licensing and Road Worthiness Inspection Department. As for me, I’d like to work as an instructor in some motor-school or transport organization. My big ambition is to open private motor-school. I like my specialty very much. It is extremely important nowadays.
