T: Each group will be given the text about one of the world’s major religions. You task is to study these text carefully, to take all the information from the text. In your group all the students read the text one by one and some sentences that are difficult for understanding to translate.

1st group study Christianity:

Christiaпity is the world's biggest religion, with about 2.2 billоn followers worldwide. It is based оп the teachings of Jesus Christ who lived in the Holy Land I 2000 years ago. Through its missionary асtivity Christianity has spread to most parts of the world. The founder of Christianity is Jesus Christ (Jesus of Nazareth). Jesus was а Jew who was born in Bethlehem . Не lived fоr 33 years before being crucified bу Romans. Не саrе to earth to teach about love and fellowship. Christians believe that Jesus rose from the dead and appeared to his disciples (followers) to show everyone that there is another life after death. They a]so believe that there is оnе God, but it consists of three "persons" - God the Father, God the Son and the Holy Spirit. The most important Christian Festivals аге Lent, Easter and Christmas. There аге three main branches of Christianity - the Catholic Church, the Church of England and the Orthodox Church. АН Christians share соттоп beliefs that God revealed himself in Jesus Christ, that Christ was crucified and resurrected. The Christian place of worship is а Church, also а Chapel and а Cathedral. They аге often built in the shape of а cross with the altar facing east towards the rising Sun. Churches аге usually beautifully decorated. Christian worship involves praising God in music, speech, readings from scripture. The Bible, the Christian holy book, is divided into the Old and New Testaments. Parts of the writing соntained in the Old Testamentаrе also sacred to Jewish and Muslim people.

2nd group study Islam:

Islam is the second most popular religion in the world with over а thousand million followers. Islam began in Arabia and was revealed to humanity bу Muhammad (570-632), а holy man born in Месса ['mekə], to whom God told many things which are recorded in the Koran, the Holy Book of Islam, translated as "the word of God". Those who follow Islam are called Muslims. They believe that there is only one God called Allah ['ælә]). The Muslim building for worship is called а mosque. Very often mosques have а domed roof with а tall tower called а minaret, from which Muslims are called to prayer. Mosques have bare walls and very little furniture. Muslims take off their shoes before entering the mosque and use prayer mats to knее! оп them. Women do not pray in the same place as men. There is usually а screened off area for them. Muslims pray five times а day (prayer times are fixed bу the sun and change dai1y). They wash themselves before prayer and [асе the direction of Месса while praying. If it is financially possible, Muslims are required to travel to Месса at least once in their lifetime. The main Muslim Festiva1 is Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic Lunar calendar. During Ramadan all Mus1ims across the wor1d do not eat during the hours of day1ight.

3d group study Judaism:

Judaism, which has only about 12 rnil1ion followers, is around 3500 years and is the oldest of the world's four great religions. This religion originated in Israe1. The founder of Judaism is Abraham who is regarded as the father of Jewish реор1е. Jews see Abraham as а symbo1 of trusting and obeying God. Moses [‘məuziz] is a1so an important figure of Judaism as he gave the Jews the Torah, the Jewish Holy Book, which contains the laws of God. Moses was the 1eader of Jews who freed them from slavery in Egypt. Moses protected the Jews from the anger of God and negotiated with God оn their behalf. Jews be1ieve in а sing1e God who created the universe.

Jews worship in synagogues. Men and women usually sit separately. Men аге required to соver their heads. In most cases worship takes place in Hebrew ['hi:bru:]. The Jewish spiritual 1eaders are called rabbis ['ræbaiz].

The most important day of the week is the Sabbath ['sæbәӨ] (Shabbat), which is а day made ho1y. This day starts at sunset оп Friday and continues until sunset оп Saturday. During the Sabbath, peop1e do nothing that might bе counted as work, they shou1dn't even drive or cook.

The main Jewish Festiva1 is Passover (Pesach ['peisa:h] in Hebrew). Passover is the time when Jewish people remember how they left Egypt. It is а major eight-day festiva1. Matzah (unleavened bread) is eaten throughout the festival. There is а great spring c1eaning in the home before the festiva1 to ensure that по trace of 1eaven is 1eft in the home during Pesach.

4th group study Buddhism:

Buddhism began in India and is based оп the teaching of the Buddha.

Тhе re1igion is 2,500 years old and is followed bу 350 million Buddhists worldwide. Buddhism is the main religion in many Asian countries. It is а religion about suffering and need to get rid of it. А key concept of Buddhism is Nirvana , the most en1ightened, blissfu1 state one сап achieve, а state without

suffering. Buddhism is not centered on the relationship between humanity and God. The founder of Buddhism is Siddhartha Gautama. Не was born around the year 580 В.с. in Nepa1. Не was born into а roya1 family and for тапу years lived within the pa1ace away from sufferings of 1ife. One day he went outside the roya1 palace and saw what rea1 1ife was like. Не was worried by what he saw. Не stopped being а prince and bеcаmе а homeless ho1y тап. Не found the path to Enlightenment and bесаmе known as the Buddha or "awakened one". Statues of Buddha include а 10t of symbo1s. Buddha is often seen with а round mark оn his forehead which is his third eye. This is а symbo1 to show that he сап see things ordinary people cannot see.

Buddhists worship at home or at а temp1e. They mау sit оп the floor barefoot facing an image of Buddha and chanting. lt is very important that their feet face away from the image of Buddha. All Buddhist temp1es contain an image of а statue of Buddha. Every month, most Buddhists have specia1 religious days. These are often days when there is а full moon. Buddhists believe that there is а cyc1e of birth, life, death and rebirth. This goes оп and оп. But if а person саn gain Enlightenment, they саn break out of this cyc1e. Breaking out of the cyc1e is called Nirvana. It is perfect реасе, free of suffering. Buddhists try to reach Nirvana bу following the Buddha's teaching and bу meditating. Meditation means training the mind to empty it of all thoughts. When this happens what is important comes c1ear.

When Israel was in Egypt’s land

Let my people go

Oppressed so hard

They couldn’t stand

Let my people go

So the Lord said

“Go down, Moses

‘way down to Egypt’s land

Tell all the Pharaohs

To let my people go”

So Moses went to Egypt’s land

He made all Pharaohs understand

Refrain:

Thus spoke the lord

Bold Moses said

“Let my people go.

If not, I’ll smite,

Your firstborn dead

Let my people go.”

Refrain:
